Southern Utah Lodging

Cedar City’s Abbey Inn is the gateway to many of southern Utah’s scenic wonders

The Abbey Inn of Cedar City makes an ideal southern Utah lodging headquarters. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Monument are all within an hour-and-a-half drive of the “Festival City,” so nicknamed because it hosts the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Cedar City’s premier annual event, the Tony-award winning Shakespearean Festival runs from June to October, presenting Shakespeare plays in an outdoor theater that is a replica of the Globe Theatre of Shakespeare’s time. In addition to Shakespeare’s works, the event also stages contemporary productions and an Elizabethan-themed pre show. It also hosts backstage tours, seminars and a dinner theatre.

Standing out among other southern Utah lodging options, the Abbey Inn of Cedar City will make you feel right at home during your stay. Each one of our 83 tastefully decorated suites includes a king or queen bed, a 27-inch television, a refrigerator, a microwave, and free high-speed Internet access. Southern Utah University, which hosts the Utah Shakespearean Festival, is within walking distance of our hotel. To top it off, Abbey Inn boasts an in-house restaurant. Eight other restaurants are mere blocks away.

Cedar Breaks National Monument is the closest national park service administered area to your southern Utah lodging base camp at the Abbey Inn. Only a half-hour drive from Cedar City, Cedar Breaks features a three-mile long natural amphitheater of colorful rock spires, pinnacles and columns that are similar to Bryce Canyon. Known as the “Circle of Painted Cliffs” to local Indians, Cedar Breaks is 2,500 feet deep and sits at an elevation of 10,000 feet. The monument is home to ponderosa pine, quaking aspen and bristlecone pine, thought to be the world’s oldest living organism. Cedar Breaks visitors enjoy hiking the park’s two scenic trails, picnicking at its picnic area, camping in its campground and photographing the spectacular views from its many panoramic vistas.
