For the last 3 years, Cedar City host has hosted the Fire Road Cycling event, and we are excited to welcome them back this Saturday July 6th.  Competitors flock to the red rocks of Southern Utah to compete in this off road race which, has some of the best views the West has to offer. This year, 25 cyclists will qualify for the Leadville 100 (the Superbowl of mountain racing.)  Also, cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female athletes competing in the 100 km.

Family Friendly Play at Shakespeare Festival

peterpage
The 2013 season at the Utah Shakespeare Festival begins in about two weeks.  This season, the most talked-about play is the Peter and the Starcatcher.

Fresh off of Broadway and boasting 5 Tony Awards, this play is making it’s regional premiere at the Utah Shakespeare Festival this summer right before the national tour this fall.  That means that this will be your last chance to see Peter and the Starcather for quite some time.

Fortunately, the festival has extended the show through the fall season in order to accommodate the large audiences that will be flocking to Cedar City.

The play is being directed by Shakespeare Festival favorite, Brian Vaughn.  It tells the story of Peter Pan before Neverland.  Audiences will discover how Neverland came into being, how Captain Hook lost his hand, and who the Lost Boys really are.

The story is told by 12 talented actors who play over 100 memorable characters and musicians who provide the sound effects and the musical backdrop.  In line with a child’s perspective of the world, ordinary props are used in imaginative ways: a rope become an ocean wave, and a flashlight becomes a piece of magic.

If you are looking for a fun and memorable experience with your family this year, come see Peter and the

Volunteer for the Utah Summer Games

summergames

Summer is fast approaching, and with it comes one of the most popular sporting event in the region: The Utah Summer Games! Every year the Abbey Inn welcomes athletes from all over Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Arizona.

This year we would like to try something new in an effort to support the games which bring so much business to Cedar City. They are always in need of volunteers to hand out medals, groom the fields, direct the athletes and their families, etc. For anyone who volunteers for the games, the Abbey Inn will offer 20% off their room (not valid with other discounts.)

All you have to do is call Bob Tate at 435-865-8421, mention the Abbey Inn volunteer deal, and arrange a date and time. Then call the Abbey Inn and talk to Laura to claim discount on your room. We will call and verify your name on Bob’s list, so please call him first. Only one discount will be awarded/room.

If you love competing in the Summer Games, show your support and keep this tradition strong.

We continue the series “Meet Our Staff” with one of our super front desk employees, Sharlee. Because our staff is often asked about what to do and where to go in Cedar City, we thought we’d share some of Sharlee’s local insights.

Favorite thing to do in Cedar City: “I love to walk Main Street. My friends and I go in and out of the little shops and always stop by Bulloch Drug to get ice cream and to play the jukebox.”

Favorite Restaurant: “A Taste of Hawaii is delicious! It is an adorable little restaurant squeezed in on Main Street. The lady who owns it is really sweet and the food is so good! Maggie Moos is a fun local place to get yummy ice cream!”

So come in and say “hi” to Sharlee. She is very sweet and professional and can give lots of advice to our guests.

After the renovation

We have finally completed our bathroom renovations (for half of the hotel that is.)  It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

Take a look at what we’ve done.

Thank you to all of our staff who worked so hard to get these rooms completed.  They are currently working on the second half of the hotel, so in the next few months, if you’d like to ensure you get a room with a new bathroom, make sure you request it  upon making the reservation.
