The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced that Les Miserables, one of the most popular Broadway shows, will be added to the 2012 Season. It will be replacing the previously announced shows The Drowsy Chaperone in the summer and Scapin in the fall. Scapin will be part of the summer selections.

“I am thrilled we are finally able to produce Les Miserables on the Randall L. Jones stage,” said R. Scott Phillips, Festival Executive Director. “It is one show that our guests have requested over and over for many years, and for the past ten years we have been unable to secure the rights, due to its 25th anniversary national tour and our scheduling, until now. I am confident this show will sell out, so get your tickets now.”

The musical included some of theatre’s most memorable songs such as ”I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “On My Own,” and “Do You Hear the People Sing?”

When: Saturday, November 5, 2011 @ 7:30 AM

Where: Parowan Gap Petroglyphs National Register of Historical Sites

What: Observe the natural phenomenon that reminded the native americans of Southern Utah to prepare for the up-coming winter.

“This is the most amazing event of all the events to be observed at the Gap,” said event coordinator/interpreter Nancy Dalton, who explained, “that before and after Nov. 6-8, the morning sun will pass through the Overseer’s mouth, but only on these three days will the sun enter his mouth and sit, and sit, and sit and – gulp – the Overseer swallows the sun. Thus, telling the American Indian people that the Summer Sun has gone into its winter home, and if they have not prepared for winter weather, then they better be moving south quickly.”

Along with watching the Summer Sun go into its winter home, the event will include a walking interpretive tour of the Gap and its many petroglyphs. Those attending the event are strongly encouraged to wear winter coats, hats and gloves, as the winter wind through the Gap can be quite chilly.

Halloween isn’t only for children! Adults, sitting in your recliner at home, waiting for trick-or-treaters, and mindlessly munching on cheap candy is no longer your only option. Here are some ideas that will help you get into the spirit of the season without feeling like a fool…..but by all means, feel free to come in costume.

Utah Shakespeare Festival presents “Dial M for Murder”

In London, 1952, the wealthy Margot Wendice has convinced her professional tennis player husband, Tony, to give up playing to spend more time with her. He now sells sports equipment, and, to Margot, their life together is a happy one. However, he has discovered that while he was on a tennis tour in the United States several years ago, Margot had an affair with an American murder mystery writer named Max Halliday.

Because he wants revenge as well as her money, Tony meticulously plans Margot’s murder. She has no idea that Tony knows of her past affair, nor does she have any suspicion that he planning to kill her. Max comes to London to visit the couple, and Tony uses this as the opportunity to fulfill his plan.

Tony blackmails a man who calls himself Captain Lesgate, a former schoolmate and convicted criminal, to carry out the scheme. They plan what they believe is the perfect murder. But when Margot refuses to play the part of the victim, things go much differently than planned.

Oct. 22, 24-29, 31 Tuacahn Ampitheatre presents “Thriller”

If Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “Thriller” isn’t part of your yearly Halloween tradition, it should be. The spooky spectacular combines technical aspects of dance while paying homage to the stars of All Hallows’ Eve.

Throughout the two-hour program, “Thriller” highlights all the heroes of the season, including Frankenstein’s monster and his bride, skeletons, mummies and werewolves. But among the ghouls, you’ll find other unlikely heroes of Halloween, such as Bubbles the Clown and the “Giggle Girl,” who sings and maniacally laughs her way through songs such as “I Saw Mommy Killing Santa Claus.”

Oct. 14-15 Harvest Boutique

Celebrate the 25th Anniversary Harvest Boutique with the 1st Witches Night Out (Friday) from 4:00pm – 9:00pm. 30% off Halloween (during Witches Night Out 40% off), all gift lines 20% off: Christmas, Webkinz, Jewelry, Jim Shore, Scarves, Candles, Select Jewelry 30% off.
The Cedar City Wine Club brings a culture of great food and wine to Southern Utah and brings people together to share what they love and have in common.

Their upcoming event is scheduled for Sunday September 4th, 5-8 PM. It will be a wine tasting of unusual white wines. Membership is free, and they only ask that you bring your favorite wine and/or food to share. To attend, simply e-mail info@cedarcitywineclub.com, and they’ll add you to their roster.

Don’t drink wine? The club also hosts tastings for cheeses, chocolates, coffees, and teas. Something for everyone!
