2011 GROOVEFEST AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
FUNDRAISER RUMMAGE SET AT ST, JUDES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 9:00AM – 12:00PM
Planning is underway for the 9th Annual 2011 Groovefest American Music Festival in historic downtown Cedar City!
The success of the 2010 fest was so overwhelming that organizers have already planned the first event of the 9th Groovefest with what is quickly becoming an annual event of its own; The Groovefest Rummage Sale.
One of Cedar City’s most colorful and ambitious festivals has been a staple since 2002, when it began as a mere few-hour event with a couple hundred attendees. Cedar City witnessed the largest Groovefest crowds at its 8th annual festival with almost 50,000 estimated for the five-day happening. Once more, Groovefest will be joined by the Cedar City Arts Festival and be presented together on June 24th and 25th. This two-day segment of the five-day festival will provide great music and visual arts in the beautiful Cedar City Main Street Park for everyone who loves art of all kinds to enjoy!
Some new things are already being planned for next years Groovefest, as every year something new has been added since its inception – these events, for now, will be kept under wraps until a later date – but for now the planning committee has released the dates for 2011 to be from June 22 through June 26.
The committee will later be announcing the other news related to the festival which not only hosts musical entertainment from all over the United States, but also features arts and crafts as well as various food vendors.
The Groovefest American Music Festival has gained national attention and a momentum in its popularity over the years and has become known as one of the only festivals of its kind to be free to the public. Featuring American music of all kinds; including folk & bluegrass, country, roots-rock, jazz and afro-beat, etc., the only way that it can take place is through advertising from sponsors that would like to help Cedar City’s music festival be the best that it can be.
This highly anticipated yearly event would not be possible without the revenue generated from its sponsors, and the only way that it has been able to continue for so long is through their generosity. Another way the city benefits is from the tax revenue generated from the festival while it takes place, last year calculated at close to 1 million dollars in new economic impact.
Proceeds from the rummage sale, which, in addition to the many past sponsors that Groovefest is hoping to retain as well as gather new ones, will not only supplement the many costs that are required to put on a festival that is the caliber of Groovefest, but it will create awareness for the annual music and art event.
The fund-raising efforts will begin with a rummage sale on Saturday, November 20, from 9:00AM until noon, with all of the proceeds going to the preliminary booking efforts for next year’s Groovefest. The sale will be held at St. Judes Episcopal Church at 70 N. 200 W. in Cedar City. Donations are needed for the sale can be dropped off at Groovacious or Braun Books.
