Late summer and early fall are the perfect time to run a race in Southern Utah, and there is definitely no shortage in opportunities. Listed below are some upcoming events, ranging from a 5 k and half marathons to relays and a triathlon. Whether you’re starting out on your quest to fitness or you’re a seasoned athlete, you’ll find something that will challenge and reward you.
Cedar Express 31 Mile Relay Race- The race begins at 7 a.m. at the”C” overlook on Cedar Mountain and ends at Park Discovery. Teams are five (or less). Each runner runs two times throughout the day, completing about six miles total. For more info or to sign up, visit www.cedarexpress31milerelay.com.
Moon Walk/Run 5 K Race-This popular event begins at the rise of the full moon (about 9:00 p.m.) at the Bicentennial Softball Complex (660 W 1045 N) and proceeds along the Coal Creek Trail. The cost is $8 each and it includes a T-shirt; Aguatic Center swim pass; water and fruit; and a glow in the dark necklace. Register at the Aquatic Center at 2090 W. Royal Hunte Drive.
Color Country Triathlon-For those who enjoy biking, swimming, and running, this event begins at the Lake at the Hills and finishes at Park Discovery. For more information call (435)463-1964.
Red Rock Relay-For those with great lung capacity, this relay begins at 10,500 feet in Brian Head and ends at Snow Canyon for a total of 180 miles of gorgeous scenery. This even last for 24 hours, and team sizes range from 6-12. For more info go to www.redrockrelay.com.
Cedar City Half Marathon- This scenic down hill race is perfect for anyone preparing for a full marathon like the St. George marathon. The race begins at 7 a.m. on US-14 at Woods Ranch (about 11 miles up Cedar Canyon) The road is closed for safety and and enjoyable running experience. Each participatn will receive a shirt and a finisher medallion. Those who register before August 15 will have the chance to win a pair of high end running shoes.
